Doggo Eats
vs Yuka

Yuka is one of the best food apps out there — for humans. If you want to scan a granola bar, a yogurt, or a moisturizer and instantly understand what is in it, Yuka does that better than almost anything else available. Tens of millions of people use it daily for exactly that reason.

But when it comes to dog food, you need something built for dogs. Dog nutrition is governed by completely different standards, different biology, and different risk factors. Yuka was never designed for that problem — and applying it to dog food gives you an answer that sounds authoritative but is not actually meaningful for your dog.

Human nutrition is not dog nutrition

Dogs are not small humans. Their digestive systems work differently. Their nutritional requirements — the balance of protein, fat, calcium, phosphorus, and dozens of other nutrients — are governed by AAFCO standards developed specifically for canines, not the nutritional guidelines humans use.

Yuka evaluates food against human nutritional benchmarks. When you scan a bag of dog food with Yuka, it is applying a scoring framework that was never designed for that food. The score it gives you is meaningless for a dog — and in some cases, actively misleading.

Doggo Eats was built from the ground up for canine nutrition. Every scan, every score, every recommendation is evaluated against standards that actually apply to your dog.

Your dog is not generic

A 3-year-old Border Collie at a healthy weight has very different nutritional needs than a 10-year-old Basset Hound with joint issues. Breed, age, weight, and health conditions all change what a good diet looks like.

Yuka gives everyone the same score for the same product. There is no concept of "this dog" versus "that dog." Our scoring is built around your specific dog's profile — so the same food might score differently for a senior dog versus an active young one, because it should.

Beyond scanning, our AI coach answers questions specific to your dog. Not a breed in general. Not dogs as a category. Your dog, with your dog's history.

Where Yuka works well

Yuka is a well-built product for what it was designed to do. If you want to scan your own groceries or personal care products, it is one of the better options available. We have no argument with that.

But if you are standing in the pet food aisle trying to figure out whether what you are holding is actually good for your dog — Yuka is not the right tool for that. We are.
